Explore the Grounds at Old Duninald

We invite you to take time to wander through the beautiful grounds surrounding Old Duninald. The plantings throughout the property reflect key periods in the homestead’s long history, with each phase adding a unique layer to the landscape.

Early Plantings (1820s–1840s)
The first phase dates back to William Dun, featuring heritage plantings such as the Norfolk Island Hibiscus that frames the entrance and the distinctive fan palm beside the veranda.

Reynolds Era (1970–2000)
In the second phase, Sid Reynolds established an Australian native nursery on the property. His passion for Queensland rainforest species is evident in the diverse selection of trees scattered throughout the grounds.

Contemporary Regeneration (2019–Present)
The latest phase focuses on environmental renewal, including the development of a Lower Hunter rainforest zone and a bush food garden that celebrates native Australian flora and its cultural significance.
